What if someone came into you home at night and stole you personal property? Let's take it a step further, what happens to that someone if they hack into your financial accounts and drain your savings, retirement, barrows against you home equity and leaves you to pay the tab? Well, if they get caught and they get prosecuted, likely sent to prison. Now what happens if that person is your wife? What happens if all the debt incurred by her, in your name, was sent to her children from a previous marriage? What happens then? Nothing! So states the law generally applied almost universally across the nation, the spouse is the co-maker on the bank accounts and a power of attorney (see below) covers the rest.
If you are not married, don’t get married; see above my definition of marriage. If there is a larger argument required look up the history of Marriage Licenses. This should cure the desire to allow the state into your marriage bedroom, as the state has no right there. It is all about the money and the state forcing the “Bread Winner” to take financial responsibility for their children and fulfill the “marriage contract.” If the phrase “marriage contract” doesn’t cause you to think it isn’t about money, think again, why do you think a divorce lawyer is required to dissolve a marriage? They are dissolving a contract, and the courts force the parties to execute the contract in terms of dollars.
